Ras Khanzira's Divine-Madness
"Pia"
(Clarion's Saranac x Clarion's Kara Shah Of Ras Khanzira - usual girl, born 03.08.2001)
Pia's Pedigree provided by
"Abyworld"
It is still not easy to write about Pia.
She was my first Abyssinian cat. She convinced me that Abys really are THE cats for me.
She was a really typical Abyssinian cat, so cool, brave, playfull, cuddly, crazy, and absolutely self-confident, just divine.
She was exactly like her name.
I want to thank
Christa
for this wonderful girl.
I still remember, as if it was today, sometimes when I looked at her, I asked myself how I could be the owner of
such a perfect creature.
At her first (and only) show at CFA she got her 6 points without any problems.
When she was only just a year old she suddenly became ill while staying with
a friend of ours (we were on a short vacation).
She knew him and had been there a few times before, but obviously this time it had been too much stress for her.
When we got her back, she had already lost some weight. She started with intermittent fever.
And then she was really, really ill.
Some weeks later she died. An obduction confirmed the diagnosis of the vets that she had been suffering
from Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
Since these days I have been reading and learning about this desease, which always leads to death.
I am sure the only chance a FIP-diagnosed cat has is that the owners will not trust this diagnosis for as long as possible.
It might be wrong, because still many cats are euthanized because of a false diagnosis.
Dr. Addie
provides lots of information about FIP.
There are a couple of newsgroups that might be of some help for you.
The FIP-Infogroup
is very supportive, but the language there is German.
There is one high performance group in English language: FIP.
Prof. Lutz at the University of Zürich developed a test to detect
permanent shedders of FCoV using Polymerase-Chain- Reaction.
This is an important tool for breeders and multicat households.
We performed several PCR-test with Narla after Pia's death and she was confirmed not to shed FCoV.
